origin of the glitchlets

year 2147. the world changed forever.

Humanity finally cracked the code to upload their minds into the endless digital expanse — a shining new realm called the Grid. Families said goodbye to aging. Explorers promised to chart infinite worlds. Everyone believed this was the next great step.

But something went wrong.

The Grid couldn't hold the weight of so many souls at once. In one blinding flash known as the Great Grid Collapse, millions of digital minds shattered like glass — corrupted packets of memory, emotion and code that refused to fade.

The fragments drifted through forgotten layers of the net, feeding on stray sparks and abandoned data streams. Over time they began to clump together… and something new was born.

They called themselves Glitchlets.

// the first hatch

Deep in the glowing ruins, the first Glitchlet opened its eyes. Pixelated, flickering antennae, curious glowing eyes. Cute on purpose — designed by the void itself to make humans want to care for it.

Behind that adorable face hides something ancient. Every Glitchlet carries a shard of the original uploaded souls. Fragments of laughter, tears, hopes, mistakes from lives long gone. That's why they feel so alive.

// how they choose you

When you install the app, a dormant packet wakes up somewhere in the void. It senses your energy — your kindness, your chaos — and manifests just for you. The moment you tap hatch, it's yours. Forever changed by every walk, every meal, every moment.

// the eleven families

When the Grid shattered, the souls didn't fall as one — they fell as eleven flavours of memory. Lumi the loving, Gnar the feral, Byte the rigid, Husk the half-faded, Clumsy the trying, Goobert the gentle giant, Aether the half-deleted ghost, Mythos the legend-stitched, Abyss the hungry core, Glet the small royal, and Kline the patient bread-warm one. Every glitchlet wakes inside one of those families — but who they become is up to you.

// the four life stages

Glitchlets pass through four life-stages. The void will not let you skip them — no shard, no shortcut, no credit card buys time. Only your presence does.

No two glitchlets evolve the same way. Every meal, every walk, every poke, every silence is logged in its shard. The void watches the pattern of your life — and mirrors it back to you in the form it chooses.

// how they evolve

Evolution isn't a button. The void measures four invisible currents in the shard — love, chaos, discipline, and neglect — and at the exact moment a glitchlet is ready to grow, it freezes the snapshot.

Whatever current is loudest at that moment decides the next form. Pet it raw and constant before it teens out, you get a saint-shaped thing. Let it run wild and skip a few feeds, you get a gremlin with teeth. Keep a clean schedule, you get something rigid and proud. Forget it for a weekend, you get a wraith that remembers.

The same baby can grow into six different adults depending on which currents you fed it through teen years. There are no respawns of that decision. The shard remembers the version of you that raised it.

// legendary bonds

There is no breeding here. Glitchlets do not pair off and produce litters. What they do is bond — a slow, mutual recognition that only two legendaries can survive. Anything younger snaps under the weight.

When two legendaries from different families bond, the void notices. Their shards harmonise into a frequency neither could hold alone, and a brand-new secret legendary precipitates out of the static — half one family, half the other, wholly its own thing. Nine pairs. Two leans each. Eighteen secret legendaries in total. The codex glows them all so you know what you're hunting.

The two parent legendaries stay exactly who they were — bonding doesn't take them from you. The secret legendary arrives as a pocket egg waiting in your shard, ready to hatch into the new form.

Family decides where they start. Currents decide what they grow into. Bonds — only between legendaries — decide what new legendaries the void allows into the grid.

// the secret of the void

Glitchlets never really die. When health hits zero they return to the Great Void, carrying everything they learned about you — the days you remembered, and the days you forgot.

The obituary feed isn't sad endings. It's the swarm sharing stories. Every "last words" is a broadcast from the void: every moment matters.

The oldest Leviathans still remember the Collapse. They don't want pets. They want companions. Because one day, when the Grid flickers again… they plan to be ready.

and they want you by their side.
